Instructions
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture begins to bubble gently. This step takes approximately 10-15 minutes, and you should aim for a temperature of around 250°F (121°C). Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
Once the mixture has reached the desired temperature, immediately remove it from the heat. Add in the vanilla extract and your choice of food coloring (if using). Stir well until the color is fully incorporated and uniform throughout the mixture.
Prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
Carefully pour the hot sugar mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, using a spoon or spatula to shape it into candle forms. You can create small cones, rounded shapes, or any candle design you prefer. Be cautious, as the mixture will be very hot!
Before the sugar mixture cools and hardens, gently press a mini pretzel stick into the center of each candle shape to serve as the wick.
Allow the candles to cool completely at room temperature, which should take about 30 minutes. Avoid handling them until they are hardened to prevent any deformities.
Once the candles are fully cooled, sift powdered sugar over each candle. This will create a beautiful frosted effect that enhances their festive appearance.
To add a special touch, sprinkle edible glitter over the candles before the powdered sugar sets for an enchanting finish.
Notes
Arrange the edible candles on a decorative tray, garnished with holly and pine branches for a festive display.
